These children were visiting a waterfall in Oregon on a cold winter day. Their home is in sunny Hawaii and this was their first experience with cold weather. Aren’t they cute?
Travel provides great opportunity for children to learn about the world around them. By experiencing new cultures, modes of transportation, scenic views, and climates they learn social studies, geography, and more. Visiting historical sites introduces them to history and makes those from the past become real in their lives. By observing deserts, forests, rivers, oceans, animals, and native flowers they develop their understanding of the natural world. Travel provides new sights, sounds, tastes, scents, and textures, thereby expanding a child’s view of the world. A textbook could never provide such a broad and expansive view!
